Bethesda, MD – The second annual technical UAS symposium sponsored by the American Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ASPRS) is approaching (September 29-30)!   The current fee for ASPRS members to attend the event is only $350. The current fee for non-ASPRS members to attend the event is only $400.  Student rates are available.  Exhibitors are provided an exhibit booth and benefits which include two complimentary registrations for only $650.  All rates will go up in price on August 15, 2015so register now!

This year’s program includes a pre-symposium, ASPRS-sponsored, one-day UAS Data Processing Workshop on Monday, September 28.   The fee for the workshop is only $95 for ASPRS members, $125 for non-members, and $45 for students.  The fee will include a complimentary lunch.  This workshop will be hands-on with participants bringing their laptops which will be loaded with processing software and UAS test data.  This is an opportunity to receive hands-on instruction from national leaders in photogrammetry.

The second annual UAS technical symposium will showcase UAS in operation including flights of UAS mapping calibration test courses for the validation and accuracy assessment of UAS sensor payloads.  General technical sessions will focus on the mapping and remote sensing aspects of unmanned acquisitions with the goal to provide practical information on UAS flight planning, acquisition, data processing and map production.  National and international speakers will address current-day and developing UAS applications.  Academia and research institutions will inform on existing educational and training opportunities.  Survey, mapping, and engineering firms will be on-hand to share their experience and further their UAS implementation strategies.  Government agencies will share information on the development of national and international mapping programs.  Last year’s event included over 560 participants and 60 exhibitors; this year our numbers are expected to grow.   A high-quality technical program is already lined-up with exciting and informative speakers.  The speaker list and preliminary program will be released soon – please stay tuned.

BEGINNING SLATE OF FLYERS ANNOUNCED FOR ASPRS UAS MAPPING 2015 RENO

Bethesda, MD – UAS flyers are signing up to participate in the 2nd Annual UAS MAPPING Test Flights. Ten firms have already expressed interest in putting their systems through their paces and many more firms are expected to join in! Flights will occur at the beautiful Turf Farm outside of Reno which hosted the test flights at the 2014 event. Organizations interested in performing test flights on the calibration range should contact Pierre le Roux at zpleroux@gmail.com or 1.256.724.1587.

Saturday-Sunday, Sept 26-27: Test/calibration courses will be established for the UAS MAPPING Test Flights to include ground surveyed targets, radiometric targets, undulating surfaces, “surprise” targets, and simulated flight restricted areas. Areas will be established for testing rotary aircraft as well as areas for longer-endurance fixed-wing flights. Early event planning also promises coordinated activities with the Civil Air Patrol – information on that exciting development will be forthcoming!

Monday, Sept 28: ASPRS is also announcing a UAS Data Processing Workshop! Following two days of test flights, ASPRS will conduct a one-day workshop on the principles of UAS Photogrammetry as well as hands-on processing of UAS data (including data from the test flights).

Tuesday-Wednesday, Sept 29-30: The Technical Symposium and Live Demonstration begins at 8:00 AM on Tuesday, Sept 29, 2015 and extends through 5:00 PM on Wednesday, Sept 30, 2015. The event will be held at the Reno Ballroom in downtown Reno. Industry-leading practitioners, developers, researchers, and entrepreneurs will share their vision of the UAS landscape. Tuesday afternoon will feature a live demonstration of UAS in flight. These integrated activities are focused to advance knowledge of mapping science as it applies to, and benefits from, the emerging field of UAS.
